Getting out of my Shell?
Oh, gosh I am going to have to start networking. Don’t want to. Just want to go home after work and sit on my fat ass and watch some TV and drink some Vino. I know I know not very smart but hey I am pooped after work and just want to go home and destress. Lame excuse. I am a business owner 24/7, I gotta take care of my business or there won’t be a business. Networking is part of the taking care of the business. Don’t get me wrong I like people just want to have them come in my business and I can have a good time with them here. I don’t want to have to redo my make up, tease my hair and try to figure out something so people won’t know that I am fat. I am in a beauty business, feel self-conscious. I should be thin and HOT! But I am not, I am just me trying to give YOU the best treatments and the most bang for you buck. You know the buck doesn’t go far but at my place it does, I make every dollar count. I love you all! You come in hoping to look better when you leave and I DELIVER! Waiting for my sister’s hair to dry so we can leave and get free food and booze. Now, doesn’t that sound like something I should look forward to?

To do or not to do……..
I have to admit I have been very stressed. You see I have the world on my shoulders it seems. I have to make sure my business stays afloat in this economy and make sure my family is taken care of. Taken care of in the means of being feed, house payment made and utilities on and a vehicle to transport us safely. I am not expecting luxury items or vacations I am just so grateful that my business is surviving. I love what I do, I am very lucky. I treat each person individually and I don’t know where that came from but I do. It was not because I wanted to make sure that they refer me to their friends it is because I actually care about them and care what kind of results they get. I always do my best and if there is stubborn stains I make sure that I address them with the knowledge that I have learned from doing many whitenings. I am lucky I have such wonderful clients that have come in and yes about 30% of my business is referrals. I have been asked to write about my blog titled worked and I am so happy people have read it and found it hopeful. I wish each person could do what they loved in life. You can’t give up. I have done many things and yes some of them was stupid like owning my own restaurant in a little town. I lost money but I learned. learning has lead me to where I am in business. I am not a fast learner but I do take the knowledge and use it. If something crawls up my butt I go and pursue it. I may not do it but I take the chance to find out if it is possible. In these times it is perfect to start and spread your wings that you have let them be clipped. Let your wings grow and go forward. Some day you may feel as lucky as I am even in these stressful times! And yes I do dream of a vacay to Walt Disney World at some time.

Lee’s Summit Downtown Days
There were close to 200 vendors, food galore including greek, fried twinkies, fried oreos, big french fry loaf, BBQ, Chartroose Caboose, and Cafe Jerusalem. One of my favorite vendors was Francis Metal Works, LLC. They make ducks, herons, and other water fowl out of metal and rocks. The rocks are their bodies. I had to bring one home and put it by my front door so when I return I will see my big rock friend. When it rains the rock turns a little different color and I also think that was cool. Easy to please! (Not really) We had a booth at the festival and we could hear the jet pack man who flies with a pack on his back. It is super loud but so were the bands. One band was playing ACDC and this band that was copying them was called KCDC. They also had bands that played 80’s music (they were good), dance troops you name it the stage was always full of good entertainment. There was a car show. One car was lavender and it was so close to the ground I don’t know how they drove it. I wondered as I walked by if these cars ever got parked some where where some one would likely ding their perfect doors. I would be scared to drive one! There was also a motorcycle show from Gail’s Harleys. That girl does some good business! My sister had a booth there too with the House of Denmark who has been in business for 37 years. All the furniture is made in Denmark, Germany, and Italy. Some cool stuff! A couch can become a bed. Look at their webstie www.houseofdenmark.com I think next year we will stay in the cool air-conditioning and not do another booth. Too many hours and too hot for me! (I’m a big baby!)

Working
I got a bone to pick. In this economy why do people still think they can do business like they did a few years ago. Take this for instance. We are looking for a bigger location and was looking into Hawthorne. The first dum dum I talked to was the wrong rep for the area and wasted a week with him. The next guy took a week to get ahold of us and then time kept slipping away. When we set an appointment for 6:30 on Thursday evening you could tell he was iffy on it. Like he was saying in his peanut size brain “I get off at 6 and that is too late for me”. He didn’t say it until the next day when he called and said “I think it would be better for you if we met at 4:30.” I said “No, we don’t close until 6″. Told him to forget it. I was thinking in my elephant size brain what an f’ing idiot! He just lost a client and there are tons of places to look at. I will do anything or about anything for a client. I want them to be happy. My clients are the reason why I can put the key in the front door every morning. I want every client to feel that they come first with me for the time of the treatment. I make sure of this even after over 1500 clients.

Her Expo
I had a pretty good time at Just for Her Expo. There wasn’t that many booths but for a first time show for Her Life Magazine and hercityguide they did really well. They even had free food that was outstanding by Baja 600 had spin dip (geez was this fabs!), Zest had meatballs and mac n chez, Bice Bistro has an italian dessert and a fruit soup, Trezo Mare had this chicken creamy dip that made me say yummy!, Andres chocolates was there giving out free chocolate ladies, Ingredient was giving out a fresh salad and a fruit cold soup. There were tons of medical spas there if you wanted something done to the aging puker you could easy have found some one you liked. Lots of purses, clothes, jewelry and some flip flops that sparkled. I just can’t get enough of the bling bling on my feet. Next year it is going to be twice as big as this one maybe you will see us there!

Bunny Hop!
Another hugely successful event for the Downtown Lee’s Summit promotions commitee and all that participated! Hundreds of kiddies and their baskets hoping around getting candy from so many businesses. There were 28 business in all and most gave out prizes to a girl or boy because they were the store’s representative and wore a sash with the store’s name. This idea was Chuck Denton’s from Doherty & Sullivan’s Irish Goods. My fav was a little girl who dressed up like a chicken and another was a boy carrying a huge box with a handle with tons of candy he glued onto the box. Fun day with beautiful weather!
