Teeth Whitening Legal?

The Teeth Whitening Studio has been safely whitening teeth for almost 3 years.  We get asked all the time how are we able to whiten teeth for only $99 because the dentists treatments used to and some still do charge $600 for the same one hour whitening treatment.  Main reason our overhead is not the same nor do we require certain living standards.  We don’t have all the dentist equipment that is needed for different problems such as cavities and root canals or student loans to pay off.  Some may not be able to trust us because of our price point and wonder how we can do it legally. 

 If you look under the ADA defintion of teeth whitening it used to be considered a cosmetic treatment.  Most States still go by that definition but some States are changing.  Why are they changing the rules long after Crest White Strips have been sold to the public at least 10 years?  I feel it is because my type of business is cutting into the dental profits.  The dentists are not making as much money as they used to.  It is so astonishing how much profit they actually make off of teeth whitening. 

I often catch myself wondering why are the States not banning tanning beds for the damage and the change of skin color (we change the color of teeth).  Just 1 tanning session can increase cancer rate of the skin by 75%!  Then I did my research and found  out why the dermatologist and plastic surgeons are not having lobbyist lobbying against the tanning industry.  It is because their profits would hit an all time low because 80% of skin damage is caused by the sun or tanning beds.  Got me thinking about another industry that has been around before all of us was born.  The tobacco industry!  Finally after almost 20 years a new legislation is going into effect for the use of chemicals in cigarettes.  Wow!  Can’t believe the gov’t will listen to lobbyist with lots and lots of money but wait that has been happening since the dawn of time so I am not shocked.  We can say we have whiten about 3,000 people and we do it with the utmost care and sanitation.  The Teeth Whitening Studio gets excellent results and for now is legal in the State of Missouri.  You can even tattoo the inside of the mouth or pierce the tongue which both causes bleeding and many times infection but you don’t see any industry going after the tattoo artist!

On May 4th 2010 I had a little visitor from the Dental Board, I wonder why that is? Guess they didn’t like my post! Sent them to my lawyers office.  Lawyer smart and knows they are just trying to scare me and the public.

Teeth Whitening

Academy of General Dentistry says teeth whitening  is absolutely safe and also effective.  Very few people suffer from tooth sensitivity and gum irritation.  The Teeth Whitening Studio has found that if you have used over the counter whitening products your teeth and gums may be more sensitive than others.  This is rare.  We have been whitening since 2007 and found that less than 3% of the population have any issues with the bleaching process.  We are FDA approved, State inspected, State and City licensed.  Do you wonder how the celebrities get their teeth so white?  They whiten their teeth with the exact same process we do.  Teeth whitening is a bleaching process that lightens discolorations of tooth enamel.  Whitening gel and the blue LED light we use removes most stains with gentle action as the active ingredient in the gel is broken down and oxygen acts upon the stained organic deposits (food and drink coloration), which oxidizes them into a white color.  This makes your tooth color closer to the unstained color of your tooth.   Your tooth structure will remain uneffected and any dental work will be unchanged.  This process can take off the stains of  older veneers.  The  veneers also build up stains, with whitening the stains will be removed and the color of the original veneer will be returned.  Many clinical trials have been demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of the whitening process.  You will notice immediate results and be thrilled that you came to see us!

True or False Facts on Acne

Q. Mineral oil causes clogged pores.  A. False  This is a common belief among professionals and consumers. Pharmaceutical-grade or cosmetic mineral oil is noncomedogenic meaning this will not clog your pores and you won’t  need a sledge hammer to remove them.  Many studies have shown that this does not form comedones. It has shown to actually decreases any swelling in acne patients.

Q. Breakouts after facials are an indication that the skin is purging itself of toxins.  A. False  Breakouts and pimples that seem to surge after a facial are inflammatory or irritant reactions to the methods or products used in the treatment.  Inflammation occurs in the follicle during the facial treatment and causes swelling of the follicle walls, which impairs oxygen from reaching the bottom of the follicle.  Acne bacteria are anaerobic, and thrive in an environment void of oxygen. 

Q. Eating greasy foods will not flare acne.  A.  True Even though eating excessive amounts of fried foods is not a healthy nutrition habit there is no scientific evidence that greasy foods cause or worsen acne.  There is however working in a greasy environment, such as over a fryer at a fast food restaurant, may worsen acne due to skin being exposed to airborne grease from frying foods. Even greasy foods aren’t good for your skin let alone your insides!

Q.  The sun can help dry up acne.  A.  True Ultraviolet rays of the Sun do kill acne bacteria and help to dry up acne lesions.  Additionally, natural pigmentation from tanning can help hide the redness of acne.  Fairer skin tends to show the redness more than darker skin types.  The ultraviolet rays can cause swelling and long-term damage to the skin and you might end of looking like a raisin and may even get skin cancer!  You can use appropriate skin care products to help dry up acne lesions.

Q. Natural products are less likely to cause breakouts.  A. False  I have never understood when people are telling me “but it is natural” during a consultation.  I usually respond with so is strictnine, lead, cocaine from the Poppy flower and pot so?  There is no evidence that skin care products with natural ingredients work better than those made with synthetic ingredients.  Many natural ingredients contain natural oils that can penetrate into the follicle when applied, causing the product to be actually comedogenic or acnegenic.  Essential oils, however, can stimulate and irritate the follicles and usually a carrier oil is used for aromatherapy in the product that are known to be comedogenic.

No Way!

Okay, I tried to get out of my shell but it didn’t work. I went out and socialized and couldn’t wait to get home. It is not the people, it is me. I work at Restorative Light Therapies, an aeshetic medical spa I own. I would rather work than go out or I would rather go home. I’m just drained after I work but I would have it no other way. So I am going to live with myself and just accept who I am. We all need to accept who we are and just improve on ourselves. It is close to the new year and many people make some resolutions. Just make one improvement this year with your self. Doesn’t have to be that you are going to quit smoking or loss weight maybe just something minor. I am going to find more social networks for my business and work on that. It is something that I should be working on any way but my little middle-aged brain has this idea that it is difficult. Pushing yourself to be what you want to be is all I can ask, yes it is a big resolution but if you do it slowly say one thing a year and can be done. Happy New Year and bring on the new you!

Getting out of my Shell?

Oh, gosh I am going to have to start networking. Don’t want to. Just want to go home after work and sit on my fat ass and watch some TV and drink some Vino. I know I know not very smart but hey I am pooped after work and just want to go home and destress. Lame excuse. I am a business owner 24/7, I gotta take care of my business or there won’t be a business. Networking is part of the taking care of the business. Don’t get me wrong I like people just want to have them come in my business and I can have a good time with them here. I don’t want to have to redo my make up, tease my hair and try to figure out something so people won’t know that I am fat. I am in a beauty business, feel self-conscious. I should be thin and HOT! But I am not, I am just me trying to give YOU the best treatments and the most bang for you buck. You know the buck doesn’t go far but at my place it does, I make every dollar count. I love you all! You come in hoping to look better when you leave and I DELIVER! Waiting for my sister’s hair to dry so we can leave and get free food and booze. Now, doesn’t that sound like something I should look forward to?

Open House Party

I had my Opening party on Oct. 3rd not as many people as I wanted but I learned. I learned that I worked as hard that I could to get people in the doors to find our about the benefits of LED. I had it on a Saturday next time parties will only be on Thursday evening so women don’t feel like they are taking time away from their family activities to attend a party. We had over $2,000 worth of prizes! It is so amazing that people cared about how my party would go and donated. We had are you ready for list of prizes? Here goes! Bears a Miche Bag with 3 shells, Well Being massage, Kelly Catalano life coaching $150 GC, Living Stone massage candle, GreenSummit Dispatch $150 worth of advertising, and a huge huge gift basket. I felt so loved to have the donations. We also had Braata bring wings. People talk about how good they are and people would not shut up about them. Also we had 168 mini cupcakes from Sweet City Cupcakes who just won an award for best cupcakes in Kansas City. It was a good busy day and the party ended up going until 5:30 instead of the scheduled time of 4. I have to work super hard getting the word out on what we do. We are going to a meeting today with an area newspaper about me writing some editorals on beauty. Wish me luck my blog friends!

Got the LED, Micro Current and High Frequency!

See it paid off. The waiting and waiting paid off. I got my machine, broken wheel but I got my machine. Used it 3 times today already. One for Hair Restoration, another for aging and the last for a skin disease on a kid. It felt good being able to help, I just can’t tell you how good it felt. LED is an alternative treatment for many things, it has 4 different colored lights. I can treat psoriasis, acne, eczema, skin rejuvanation, pigmentation, skin tightening of the face, neck, arms, tummy, buttocks and thigh, hair restoration, and of course we still do teeth whitening. Never give up if you really want it, keep picturing that you will receive it and work your butt off to accomplish it if need be!

LED machine

Well, we are in month 5 of trying to expand. We are expecting our fabulous LED equipment this Friday. It was suppose to have already be shipped but hopefully it will be in on Friday. I so hope so. I want to try doing a few treatments at huge reduced prices to get used to the programming. It is one of the best machines you can buy. It also has micro current (used for non surgery face lifts) and high frequency. High frequency helps products go through deep layers of the skin. You would use this for acne and aging products or any type of moisturizers. The LED will have 5 different lights all which treat different conditions such as acne, eczema, skin tightening, skin rejuvenation, psoriasis, pain and many more all of which is approved by FDA. Some of the treatments with LED have been on The Doctors and Dr. Phil!

People you have to push yourself to the limit to get where you want to get in life. Many times I would have to go home for a little while and go to bed during the stress of all this. I kept pushing through and kept pushing until it worked out. It may be okay to go to bed for awhile but you got to crawl out gain strength and PUSH!

It’s almost over

I have been trying to expand my business since April ‘09. It is just so ridiculous that the banks are still not lending money. I think to myself as I get discouraged, torn apart, wanting to pull my hair out about Elvis Presley who got turned down 12 times by recording studios. I’m I an Elvis and try and try and try? I am getting to the point of is it worth it? Will people come? Will this add stress to my bank account? I am not a person that gives up easily but you would think after 5 months of trying I would get the break that I have so been seeking. I often wonder if it is in the cards for me this expansion of my business. I have been turned down by 6 banks. That is not an easy one to stomach when you have been doing things right in your life like good credit score, equity and a business that is profitable. I keep trying just like Elvis, I get in my older van, I unlock the metal and glass door and walk on my black floors to my place of business. I look around at all the clients pictures, letters of thanks all over my steel gray walls and I continue with the race.
